  1. Make a discreet emergency call – iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X press and hold the side button and one of the volume buttons until the Emergency SOS slider appears then drag the slider across to make the call. On an iPhone 7 versions (and earlier) rapidly press the side button five times for the Emergency SOS slider to appear.
  2. Charge your device more quickly by turning your phone on to Flightmode.
  3. When taking a photo, you can hold a focal point by pressing and holding on the screen for a second or two on the point you would like and the “AF Locked” box will pop up which allows you to twist and turn your phone without losing focus.
  4. You can set your music to a timer! Click on the timer and underneath where it gives you the list of times you can choose “When timer ends” and then scroll down the list you will see the option “stop playing”. By selecting this, it means your music will stop playing after the time slot you choose.
  5. Delete text without lifting a finger by simply shaking your phone when typing in notes.
  6. Take a photo whilst shooting a video by tapping on the white circle button which appears in the bottom left hand corner whilst your video is running.
  7. There is a “Do Not Disturb” function in your setting which will stop your iPhone from sending you any notifications, alerts or calls whilst the screen is locked and stops and noise or vibrations. You can also set up a “Do Not Disturb Whilst Driving” which will switch your phone onto Do Not Disturb mode when it recognises that it has been connected to a car’s multimedia system.
  8. Lower the torch brightness by pressing on the torch button and the 3D touch menu will appear with options. Depending on which option you tapped, the flashlight will be bright or dim accordingly.
  9. Save storage with photo optimisation by going into the photo folder in Settings. This allows full resolution photos and video to be replaced with optimised versions and the full res ones will be automatically saved to your iCloud account.
  10. You can tell Siri how to pronounce words by saying “That’s not how you pronounce it” when Siri says something incorrectly. You can then say the word how it should be pronounced and Siri will then store this for next time it is needed.
