Windows XP end of life draws near

xpIf you’re still using Microsoft software with “2003” in its name, you’ll need to have a conversation with us shortly.

Users of Small Business Server 2003 and Exchange Server 2003 need to start planning the replacement of these popular software programs.

Furthermore, the popular and still widely used operating system Windows XP will also come to the end of its life.

Microsoft have announced that they will be withdrawing all support next year for the following software:

  • Small Business Server 2003
  • Exchange Server 2003
  • Office 2003
  • Windows XP

What does this mean?

This means that there will no longer be any updates, patches or fixes for any of these software products. They will be undeveloped and completely unsupported; Microsoft won’t even offer any assistance in the event of a business-critical problem. It also means that these servers will be wide open to any new exploits or malware that target new weaknesses in the software.

These are all widely-used programs in small businesses. Their lifecycle ends in April 2014 and now is the time to start planning when and how to replace these important IT systems.
