Kaspersky Lab has reported that there have been 137 million phishing attempts on their customers around the world in the third quarter of 2018, a 28% increase compared to the second quarter!
Kaspersky have also revealed the increase in phishing over the past few years. In 2016, their system blocked 154 million phishing attempts, in 2017, this rose to 246 million attempts. Whilst we have yet to reach the end of 2018, the number of attacks this year have already reached well over 300 million!
They also noted that scammers are now increasingly using browser pop-ups to prompt users to enter their personal details. They have also seen an increase in attacks which appear as job applications, news websites and Instagram verification scams.
